The NASUWT's 'work to rule' industrial action in schools and colleges across England is about ensuring we send a very clear message to the Government that workload and working time is unacceptable and it is unsustainable.
Teachers in England are working some of the longest hours anywhere in the OECD. The NASUWT union has instructed its members to take action short of a strike from Monday.

The Government is refusing to pay teachers fairly or take action to tackle excessive workload and working hours. We are balloting members in all state-funded schools for industrial action on pay, workload and working time. Ballot papers will be issued by post on 5 June.

Time for a Limit

We are calling time on unreasonable expectations and excessive workload for teachers
Our members have told us its Time for a Limit on excessive workload, unreasonable expectations and the increasing number of hours it takes to fulfil their role.
Despite their best efforts to keep up with an ever-increasing workload, 69% of teachers told us they feel too worn down to give their job their best effort.
Our Big Question and Wellbeing Surveys carried out in 2022 found that teachers ranked workload as the top issue that most impacted both their physical and mental health.
We remain in dispute over teachers’ pay.

“When we asked teachers what they were willing to do to get the Government to act to address members’ concerns about cuts to teachers’ pay, 90% of members who voted said they are ready to take strike action and action short of strike.

BLACK WORKERS have the collective power to challenge racial injustice in the workplace, Britain’s most senior black trade union official has said. In a New Year message, Dr Patrick Roach — who leads a 300,000 member teachers’ union – said “now is the time” to get involved in the movement so the collective power of labour can tackle structural racism.
