NASUWT MEMBERSHIP
The Walsall NASUWT Teachers' Union, works to protect the status of the teaching profession and deliver real improvements to teachers' and school leaders.
Joining NASUWT
We are a teachers' union. The office has full time staff who can be contacted directly via email. Details can be found at the bottom of this page.
We hold general meetings, usually half termly. We produce newsletters on a regular basis which are distributed to all members through schools. Our main function is to support local members, which is done on a personal level or through our range of courses which can be run throughout various centres and at Rednal, Birmingham.
Invite Friends
To invite friends to the NASUWT (The Teachers' Union), log in to your Gold Star account to get your unique referral link, then share this link with a colleague who isn't a member and wants to join. Both you and your friend will receive a £20 credit on your Gold Star accounts after the new member successfully signs up and remains a member for at least 90 days.
What else you need to know
The reward system uses the friends’ email address to track the referral code through the online joining process. Please ensure you use the link in the email and list this email address as the preferred email in your membership application.
Membership Offers
The current membership offers the NASUWT has in place include free and then further reduced subscriptions for newly qualified teachers and free subscriptions for student teachers.
There is also free membership for six months from the point of joining for any practising teacher who has not had free membership recently and agrees to provide bank details for future monthly direct details at the point of joining.
Teachers can also view the NASUWT's current subscription rates for when they do have to start paying subscriptions to the Union.
Tax Refunds
Professional fees and subscriptions
You can reclaim tax on fees or subscriptions you pay to some approved professional organisations - but only if you must have membership to do your job or it's helpful for your work. You can't claim tax back on fees or subscriptions you've paid to professional organisations not approved by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), or for:
- Life membership subscriptions
- Fees or subscriptions you haven't paid for yourself, ie your employer has paid for them
Teach PE or sports?
If you are a PE teacher try this and let me know what happens.
If you teach PE or sports lessons you can also claim tax relief on the cost of any sports clothing you buy for this purpose. Click here to see explanation of this from HMRC's manual.
How to do it?
I phoned gave my National Insurance number. I told them about the fees? (£186.40 a year which has not changed in 5 years) I was asked a few more questions then my Tax Code was changed I got a cheque about 10 days later for £133.
